Sonoma Sound is a sonic tapestry of original roots music with threads of Americana, Blues, Folk, Jazz, Latin and Reggae rhythms that blur the lines of musical category. Will Paynter is the creative force behind Sonoma Sound, a music cooperative which reflects his solo compositions as well as collaborations with other musicians. Five other talented musicians round out the band; Paul Downie on vocals/percussion, Jay Popky on vocals/guitar, Dean Sophocles on piano/organ, Clair Oaks on vocals & harmonium and Jake L'Armand on violin. Their eclectic performance consisting of conscious lyrics over steady rhythms and wandering melodies, include some classic and obscure cover songs, as well as many thought-provoking original compositions. Individual bios: Will Paynter Will is a self taught musician, singer and songwriter who grew up in a musical family listening to Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Jose Feliciano and Frank Sinatra. His roots based music is a reflection of his early exposure to American music and his many years of world travel and cultural experiences. The diversity of his sound began while living in the Republic of Panama & Colombia, absorbing the many rhythms of Latin America and the Caribbean. After returning to the United States, Will combined all of his musical influences into his own sound. You can hear this sonic fusion in his first solo CD "Spiritual Graffiti", recorded in 2007. His second solo CD, recorded in 2010, was simply named "Sonoma Sound" which features more of his singer songwriter style. Both of these CD’s are available on Itunes. Will also recorded 2 CD’s with his band “Three The Hard Way”. The first was “House Party”, recorded in 2008 and “Live at the Tin Angel” in 2009. His most recent musical inspirations include Taj Mahal, Gustavo Santaolalla, Ali Farka Toure, Daniel Lanois, Eliades Ochoa, Ruben Blades, Jorge Drexler, and Marc Anthony Thompson. In 2010, he crossed the Atlantic to England to perform in the "Brighton Live" music festival. While in England, he performed live on RADIO REVERB as well as a 8 shows, three of them with multi-talented percussionist Theseus Gerard, one of the founders of STOMP.
