Lindsey Cohen:
Singer-songwriter Lindsey Cohen possesses a rich, dusky voice that manages to convey both innocence and sophistication — a neat trick considering that Cohen is all of 18 years old. Add to that her knack for writing elegant melodies and bracingly honest lyrics and it’s clear that this young newcomer, who has performed at such NYC venues as Arlene’s Grocery, The Knitting Factory, The Sidewalk Cafe and The Bitter End, is going places with her recently released debut EP Grace Under Pressure.
Bulletproof Stockings: Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, alternative-rock band Bulletproof Stockings are gearing up to drop their debut full length, Homeland-Call-Stomp , later this December. The quartet consisting of Perl Wolfe (lead vocals/piano), Dalia Shusterman (drums/vocals), Elisheva Maister (cello) and Dana Pestun (violin) will also embark on a US tour including a record release show at Webster Hall on December 6th.

With features in various publications including The New Yorker , VICE , Entertainment Weekly , The Wall Street Journal and more already in their rearview, Bulletproof Stockings will look to spread their progressive message and eclectic rock stylings out to the world from their base in Crown Heights in Brooklyn, NY. Bold in their ideas and sound, but modest from their Chasidic background, the band seeks to empower women as proven last year when they defied naysayers and sold out Arlene’s Grocery with an all-female audience. The performance would serve as the basis of an episode of Oxygen’s Living Differently .

In an interview with Refinery29 , Wolfe elaborates on the mitzvah of Kol Isha, which requires a man to refrain from listening to a woman who isn’t his family member sing, and how it relates to Bulletproof Stockings. “We can play wherever we want,” she asserts, “but women need a space to rock out. So, we're trying to create that. It's about sisterhood.” Adhering to this Jewish law is the responsibility of the man to remove himself from the performance space, not the woman’s.

Look for the first single premiere from Homeland-Call-Stomp soon with the group’s sound previously described by VICE as, “somewhere between Cat Power's You Are Free and Fiona Apple's When the Pawn…
